WARRENSBURG, MO -- The Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ in support of Historic Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ.

Historic Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ is a website and a free mobile app that provides users easy access to information about the important places, people, and stories that are unique to Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ. Developed by the faculty and students in the History Program at the University of Central Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ, the mobile application provides interpretive and curated narrative tours about Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ’s history. Each point on the map includes historical information about that site and features historic images from Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ’s archival institutions such as the State Historical Society of Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ and the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ State Archives.

According to UCM history professor and project director, Dr. Jon Taylor, the grant supports UCM Master of Arts in History students to research, write, and upload content to Historic Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ that will be used to create at least 10 walking/driving tours for several Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ communities. Students plan to finish the tours by May 2023 when the tours will be featured on www.historicmissouri.org and also available for android and iphone users via the Historic
Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ app.

For more information about the grants program of the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Humanities Council, call 314-781-9660 or 800-357-0909 or write to the MHC, 415 S 18th Street, Suite 100, St. Louis, MO 63103-2269. The MHC is the only state- wide agency in Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
